What is ‘personal injury?’
No it is not when you personally get injured. Actually, personal injury means injury to character by libel, slander, or harassment. It is a broad topic and that is why personal injury insurance is crucial.
How does this apply to me?
Well, you are subject to these lawsuits if you use social media or post reviews online. We live in a litigious society. Apologies, I was flexing my vocabulary. That means that you can and may well get sued for just about anything.
Check out this article on CBS here. In a nutshell, a man takes his sick dog to the vet and they can’t save it. Bear in mind that they didn’t do the greatest job. Naturally, he posts a negative review online. However, the vet sees the review and sues him for libel against his practice. Furthermore, he now owes thousands of dollars out of his own pocket for legal fees. In other words, he gets financially buried for leaving a negative review after a vet’s negligence kills his dog. I know, it is ridiculous. However, this is now a very real issue that we need to be prepared for.
Personal Injury Insurance
Luckily, insurance has adapted to counteract these lawsuits. We do it because we care. Here is an article that explains how homeowners insurance covers personal injury. Personal injury insurance is typically offered as an extension of a policy you probably already have. In other words, you may already have this coverage and not even know it! What a nice surprise!
What can I expect to be protected against?
Personal injury covers a multitude of things. Here is a quick list…
- Libel and slander
